2024 13:1 – And it came to pass after this, that Absalom the son of David had a fair sister, whose name was Tamar; and Amnon the son of David loved her. [compare Gen. 12:11 – And it came to pass, when he was come near to enter into Egypt, that he said unto Sarai his wife, Behold now, I know that thou art a fair woman to look upon; Cf. Job 31:1 – I made a covenant with mine eyes; why then should I think upon a maid? Matt. 5:27-30 – Ye have heard that it was said by them of old time, Thou shalt not commit adultery: But I say unto you, That whosoever looketh on a woman to lust after her hath committed adultery with her already in his heart. And if thy right eye offend thee, pluck it out, and cast it from thee: for it is profitable for thee that one of thy members should perish, and not that thy whole body should be cast into hell. And his father had not displeased him at any time in saying, Why hast thou done so? and he also was a very goodly man; and his mother bare him after Absalom. We also learn that when the year was expired was a good time for travel (II Chr. 36:10), which would have been in the spring rather than the winter. Also, after the year was expired was the time when kings go forth to battle (II Sam. 11:1; I Chr. 20:1). And we learn that it was at the return of the year, that Ben-hadad numbered the Syrians, and went up to Aphek, to fight against Israel (I Kings 20:26).
