106:1 – Praise ye the LORD. O give thanks unto the LORD; for he is good: for his mercy endureth for ever. [cf. v. 7 – Our fathers understood not thy wonders in Egypt; they remembered not the multitude of thy mercies; but provoked him at the sea, even at the Red sea. v. 45 – And he remembered for them his covenant, and repented according to the multitude of his mercies. Ex. 20:5-6 – Thou shalt not bow down thyself to them, nor serve them: for I the LORD thy God am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children unto the third and fourth generation of them that hate me; And shewing mercy unto thousands of them that love me, and keep my commandments. 106:2 – Who can utter the mighty acts of the LORD? who can shew forth all his praise? [cf. 145:4 – One generation shall praise thy works to another, and shall declare thy mighty acts. 145:10-12 – All thy works shall praise thee, O LORD; and thy saints shall bless thee. They shall speak of the glory of thy kingdom, and talk of thy power; To make known to the sons of men his mighty acts, and the glorious majesty of his kingdom. Ps. 150 – Praise ye the LORD. Praise God in his sanctuary: praise him in the firmament of his power. Praise him for his mighty acts: praise him according to his excellent greatness. Praise him with the sound of the trumpet: praise him with the psaltery and harp. Praise him with the timbrel and dance: praise him with stringed instruments and organs. Praise him upon the loud cymbals: praise him upon the high sounding cymbals. Let every thing that hath breath praise the LORD. Praise ye the LORD.]

106:4 – Remember me, O LORD, with the favour that thou bearest unto thy people: O visit me with thy salvation [cf. Prov. 3:3-4 – Let not mercy and truth forsake thee: bind them about thy neck; write them upon the table of thine heart: So shalt thou find favour and good understanding in the sight of God and man. Prov. 28:23 – He that rebuketh a man afterwards shall find more favour than he that flattereth with the tongue.]

106:6 – We have sinned with our fathers, we have committed iniquity, we have done wickedly. [cf. Ezek. 20:3-4 – Son of man, speak unto the elders of Israel, and say unto them, Thus saith the Lord GOD; Are ye come to inquire of me? As I live, saith the Lord GOD, I will not be inquired of by you. Wilt thou judge them, son of man, wilt thou judge them? cause them to know the abominations of their fathers]

Jer. 25:7 – Yet ye have not hearkened unto me, saith the LORD; that ye might provoke me to anger with the works of your hands to your own hurt. Num. 16:38 – The censers of these sinners against their own souls, let them make them broad plates for a covering of the altar: for they offered them before the LORD, therefore they are hallowed: and they shall be a sign unto the children of Israel. Prov. 8:36 – But he that sinneth against me wrongeth his own soul: all they that hate me love death. Prov. 20:2 – The fear of a king is as the roaring of a lion: whoso provoketh him to anger sinneth against his own soul. I Cor. 6:18 – Flee fornication. Every sin that a man doeth is without the body; but he that committeth fornication sinneth against his own body.]

106:8 – Nevertheless he saved them for his name's sake, that he might make his mighty power to be known. [cf. Deu. 4:37 – And because he loved thy fathers, therefore he chose their seed after them, and brought thee out in his sight with his mighty power out of Egypt; Deu. 9:29 – Yet they are thy people and thine inheritance, which thou broughtest out by thy mighty power and by thy stretched out arm. Luke 9:37-44 – And it came to pass, that on the next day, when they were come down from the hill, much people met him. And, behold, a man of the company cried out, saying, Master, I beseech thee, look upon my son: for he is mine only child. And, lo, a spirit taketh him, and he suddenly crieth out; and it teareth him that he foameth again, and bruising him hardly departeth from him. And I besought thy disciples to cast him out; and they could not. And Jesus answering said, O faithless and perverse generation, how long shall I be with you, and suffer you? Bring thy son hither. And as he was yet a coming, the devil threw him down, and tare him. And Jesus rebuked the unclean spirit, and healed the child, and delivered him again to his father. And they were all amazed at the mighty power of God. But while they wondered every one at all things which Jesus did, he said unto his disciples, Let these sayings sink down into your ears: for the Son of man shall be delivered into the hands of men. 106:10 – And he saved them from the hand of him that hated them, and redeemed them from the hand of the enemy. [cf. v. 47 – Save us, O LORD our God, and gather us from among the heathen, to give thanks unto thy holy name, and to triumph in thy praise. 37:39-40 – But the salvation of the righteous is of the LORD: he is their strength in the time of trouble. And the LORD shall help them, and deliver them: he shall deliver them from the wicked, and save them, because they trust in him.]

106:13-15 – 13 They soon forgat his works; they waited not for his counsel:

Num. 11:31-34 – And there went forth a wind from the LORD, and brought quails from the sea, and let them fall by the camp, as it were a day's journey on this side, and as it were a day's journey on the other side, round about the camp, and as it were two cubits high upon the face of the earth. And the people stood up all that day, and all that night, and all the next day, and they gathered the quails: he that gathered least gathered ten homers: and they spread them all abroad for themselves round about the camp. And while the flesh was yet between their teeth, ere it was chewed, the wrath of the LORD was kindled against the people, and the LORD smote the people with a very great plague. And he called the name of that place Kibroth-hattaavah: because there they buried the people that lusted. 78:29-31 – So they did eat, and were well filled: for he gave them their own desire; They were not estranged from their lust. But while their meat was yet in their mouths, The wrath of God came upon them, and slew the fattest of them, and smote down the chosen men of Israel.]

106:13 – They soon forgat his works; they waited not for his counsel [cf. Prov. 19:20-21 – Hear counsel, and receive instruction, that thou mayest be wise in thy latter end. There are many devices in a man's heart; nevertheless the counsel of the LORD, that shall stand. Is. 46:9-10 – Remember the former things of old: for I am God, and there is none else; I am God, and there is none like me, Declaring the end from the beginning, and from ancient times the things that are not yet done, saying, My counsel shall stand, and I will do all my pleasure I Kings 22:5 – And Jehoshaphat said unto the king of Israel, Inquire, I pray thee, at the word of the LORD to day. II Chr. 18:4 – And Jehoshaphat said unto the king of Israel, Inquire, I pray thee, at the word of the LORD to day.]

106:14 – But lusted exceedingly in the wilderness, and tempted God in the desert. [cf. Ex. 17:2 – Wherefore the people did chide with Moses, and said, Give us water that we may drink. And Moses said unto them, Why chide ye with me? wherefore do ye tempt the LORD?; Ex. 17:7 – And he called the name of the place Massah, and Meribah, because of the chiding of the children of Israel, and because they tempted the LORD, saying, Is the LORD among us, or not? Deu. 6:16 – Ye shall not tempt the LORD your God, as ye tempted him in Massah. Matt. 4:7 – Jesus said unto him, It is written again, Thou shalt not tempt the Lord thy God. 106:21-22 – 21 They forgat God their saviour, which had done great things in Egypt;

106:35 – But were mingled among the heathen, and learned their works. [cf. Prov. 22:24-25 – Make no friendship with an angry man; and with a furious man thou shalt not go: Lest thou learn his ways, and get a snare to thy soul.]

107:7 – And he led them forth by the right way, that they might go to a city of habitation. [cf. Rev. 21:2,27 – And I John saw the holy city, new Jerusalem, coming down from God out of heaven, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband. ... And there shall in no wise enter into it any thing that defileth, neither whatsoever worketh abomination, or maketh a lie: but they which are written in the Lamb's book of life.]

107:8,15,21,31 – 8 Oh that men would praise the LORD for his goodness, and for his wonderful works to the children of men! ...

[cf. 40:5 – Many, O LORD my God, are thy wonderful works which thou hast done, and thy thoughts which are to us-ward: they cannot be reckoned up in order unto thee: if I would declare and speak of them, they are more than can be numbered. 78:4 – We will not hide them from their children, shewing to the generation to come the praises of the LORD, and his strength, and his wonderful works that he hath done. 111:4 – He hath made his wonderful works to be remembered: the LORD is gracious and full of compassion. 107:9 – For he satisfieth the longing soul, and filleth the hungry soul with goodness. [cf. Matt. 5:6 – Blessed are they which do hunger and thirst after righteousness: for they shall be filled.]

107:17 – Fools because of their transgression, and because of their iniquities, are afflicted. [cf. 119:71 – It is good for me that I have been afflicted; that I might learn thy statutes.]

107:18 – Their soul abhorreth all manner of meat; and they draw near unto the gates of death. [cf. James 4:7-10 – Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you. Draw nigh to God, and he will draw nigh to you. Cleanse your hands, ye sinners; and purify your hearts, ye double minded. Be afflicted, and mourn, and weep: let your laughter be turned to mourning, and your joy to heaviness. Humble yourselves in the sight of the Lord, and he shall lift you up.]

107:25-30 – 25 For he commandeth, and raiseth the stormy wind, which lifteth up the waves thereof.

And there arose a great storm of wind, and the waves beat into the ship, so that it was now full. And the sea arose by reason of a great wind that blew. 107:42 – The righteous shall see it, and rejoice: and all iniquity shall stop her mouth. [compare Titus 1:7-11 – For a bishop must be blameless, as the steward of God; not selfwilled, not soon angry, not given to wine, no striker, not given to filthy lucre; But a lover of hospitality, a lover of good men, sober, just, holy, temperate; Holding fast the faithful word as he hath been taught, that he may be able by sound doctrine both to exhort and to convince the gainsayers. For there are many unruly and vain talkers and deceivers, specially they of the circumcision: Whose mouths must be stopped, who subvert whole houses, teaching things which they ought not, for filthy lucre's sake.]

106:30-31 – 30 Then stood up Phinehas, and executed judgment: and so the plague was stayed.

107:2 – Let the redeemed of the LORD say so, whom he hath redeemed from the hand of the enemy [cf. v. 22 – And let them sacrifice the sacrifices of thanksgiving, and declare his works with rejoicing. Is. 44:22-23 – I have blotted out, as a thick cloud, thy transgressions, and, as a cloud, thy sins: return unto me; for I have redeemed thee. Sing, O ye heavens; for the LORD hath done it: shout, ye lower parts of the earth: break forth into singing, ye mountains, O forest, and every tree therein: for the LORD hath redeemed Jacob, and glorified himself in Israel. 107:14 – He brought them out of darkness and the shadow of death, and brake their bands in sunder. [cf. Ps. 23:4 – Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me.]

107:20 – He sent his word, and healed them, and delivered them from their destructions. [cf. Hos. 4:6 – My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge: because thou hast rejected knowledge, I will also reject thee, that thou shalt be no priest to me: seeing thou hast forgotten the law of thy God, I will also forget thy children.]

107:41 – Yet setteth he the poor on high from affliction, and maketh him families like a flock. [cf. Ps. 68:6 – God setteth the solitary in families: he bringeth out those which are bound with chains: but the rebellious dwell in a dry land.]

106:20 – Thus they changed their glory into the similitude of an ox that eateth grass. [cf. Jer. 2:11 – Hath a nation changed their gods, which are yet no gods? but my people have changed their glory for that which doth not profit. Rom. 1:22-23 – Professing themselves to be wise, they became fools, And changed the glory of the uncorruptible God into an image made like to corruptible man, and to birds, and fourfooted beasts, and creeping things. [If we change our glory, God will change it also: My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge: because thou hast rejected knowledge, I will also reject thee, that thou shalt be no priest to me: seeing thou hast forgotten the law of thy God, I will also forget thy children. As they were increased, so they sinned against me: therefore will I change their glory into shame (Hos. 4:6-7). Rather than changing our glory, we need to let the glory of the Lord change us: But we all, with open face beholding as in a glass the glory of the Lord, are changed into the same image from glory to glory, even as by the Spirit of the Lord (II Cor. 3:18).]]

107:11-13,20 – 11 Because they rebelled against the words of God, and contemned the counsel of the most High:

12 Therefore he brought down their heart with labour; they fell down, and there was none to help.

13 Then they cried unto the LORD in their trouble, and he saved them out of their distresses. ...
