2023 16:3 – Commit thy works unto the LORD, and thy thoughts shall be established. [compare 24:27 – Prepare thy work without, and make it fit for thyself in the field; and afterwards build thine house.] 16:4 – The LORD hath made all things for himself: yea, even the wicked for the day of evil. 2021 16:1 – The preparations of the heart in man, and the answer of the tongue, is from the LORD. ["prepar* ... heart*" (I Chr. 29:18-19 – O LORD God of Abraham, Isaac, and of Israel, our fathers, keep this for ever in the imagination of the thoughts of the heart of thy people, and prepare their heart unto thee: And give unto Solomon my son a perfect heart, to keep thy commandments, thy testimonies, and thy statutes, and to do all these things, and to build the palace, for the which I have made provision. Ps. 10:17-18 – LORD, thou hast heard the desire of the humble: thou wilt prepare their heart, thou wilt cause thine ear to hear: To judge the fatherless and the oppressed, that the man of the earth may no more oppress. Luke 1:17 – And he shall go before him in the spirit and power of Elias, to turn the hearts of the fathers to the children, and the disobedient to the wisdom of the just; to make ready a people prepared for the Lord. Therefore is the anger of the LORD kindled against his people, and he hath stretched forth his hand against them, and hath smitten them: and the hills did tremble, and their carcases were torn in the midst of the streets. For all this his anger is not turned away, but his hand is stretched out still.] 18:2 – A fool hath no delight in understanding, but that his heart may discover itself. [cf. Ps. 10:3 – For the wicked boasteth of his heart's desire, and blesseth the covetous, whom the LORD abhorreth. Discover = uncover.] 18:10 – The name of the LORD is a strong tower: the righteous runneth into it, and is safe. [cf. Is. 50:10 – Who is among you that feareth the LORD, that obeyeth the voice of his servant, that walketh in darkness, and hath no light? let him trust in the name of the LORD, and stay upon his God. Zeph. 3:12 – I will also leave in the midst of thee an afflicted and poor people, and they shall trust in the name of the LORD. Matt. 12:18,21 – Behold my servant, whom I have chosen; my beloved, in whom my soul is well pleased: I will put my spirit upon him, and he shall shew judgment to the Gentiles. ... And in his name shall the Gentiles trust.] 18:14 – The spirit of a man will sustain his infirmity; but a wounded spirit who can bear? [cf. 17:22 – A merry heart doeth good like a medicine: but a broken spirit drieth the bones.] 19:4 – Wealth maketh many friends; but the poor is separated from his neighbour. [cf. v. 6 – Many will intreat the favour of the prince: and every man is a friend to him that giveth gifts.
