2023 27:5 – And he cast down the pieces of silver in the temple, and departed, and went and hanged himself. [cf. [This quote is not found in Jeremiah, but rather in Zechariah. The best explanation I have found for this is offered by John Gill. He explains that the Jews divided the Scriptures (which for them was what most Christians call the Old Testament) into three parts: the law (the five books of Moses), the prophets, and the holy writings (Cetubim, or Hagiographa). The holy writings began with the Book of Psalms, and this whole section was called Psalms. The prophets were divided into two parts – the former prophets, which began at Joshua, and the latter prophets, which began at Jeremiah. Zechariah was included among the latter prophets. Since the whole section of holy writings was referred to as Psalms because it began with the Book of Psalms, the whole section of latter prophets, which included Zechariah, might be referred to as Jeremiah, because it began with the Book of Jeremiah.] 27:12 – And when he was accused of the chief priests and elders, he answered nothing. He that sitteth in the heavens shall laugh: the Lord shall have them in derision. Then shall he speak unto them in his wrath, and vex them in his sore displeasure. Yet have I set my king upon my holy hill of Zion. I will declare the decree: the LORD hath said unto me, Thou art my Son; this day have I begotten thee. Ask of me, and I shall give thee the heathen for thine inheritance, and the uttermost parts of the earth for thy possession. Thou shalt break them with a rod of iron; thou shalt dash them in pieces like a potter's vessel. Be wise now therefore, O ye kings: be instructed, ye judges of the earth.
